JDA Dijon is the oldest club in the BetClic Elite league. Although basketball was introduced during the interwar period, the club was founded in 1880 by Abbé Bizouard, to whom it also owes its name: Jeanne d’Arc. Initially focused on activities such as gymnastics, football, and even choir, today basketball and handball are the club’s two main sports. While the name Jeanne d’Arc followed the club for over 100 years, a journalist’s error in a local newspaper sparked the acronym JDA.

In its recent history, the club’s basketball section has won the League Cup in 1993, followed by the Leaders Cup 11 years later and the French Cup in 2006. But it was undoubtedly since its return to the highest level of French basketball in 2011 that JDA Dijon has truly made its mark, particularly with the beginning of an era under the leadership of Laurent Legname. He notably brought with him Axel Julien, with whom he had been playing for several years in Hyères-Toulon. Finally, the third member of the trio that would lead Dijon to lift the Leaders Cup trophy and finish first in the French championship was David Holston. With these three star players, JDA managed to leave its mark on the French championship, facing off against the giants AS Monaco and ASVEL. A remarkable feat for this “small” club with a big heart.

Coach Legname’s farewell was short-lived as he re-signed with the Burgundian club at the end of 2023 to revive it, after it had been relegated to the bottom half of the table mid-season.
