Founded in 1925 in the bustling port of Piraeus, Olympiacos BC quickly captured the hearts of Greeks and is now one of the three Athenian clubs whose fervor is known beyond the country. Initially a multi-disciplinary institution focusing on football or volleyball, basketball quickly gained importance until 1931 when the basketball team was officially formed. Its first successes, forged in the national championship, laid the foundation for a legend that would continue to grow. But it was from the 1990s that the Hellenic club truly exploded on the European scene.

Guided by visionary leaders and experienced coaches, Olympiacos has managed to attract the best talent, both nationally and internationally. The Piraeus club has become a veritable winning machine, dominating the national championship in the 1990s with 5 titles from the 1992-93 to 1996-97 seasons, but also winning its first European championship title in 1997. This historic victory marked a turning point, propelling Olympiacos to the rank of the greatest basketball teams on the continent.

After a difficult start to the 2000s, the Piraeus club achieved a double in 2012 (Championship/Euroleague) after a legendary match against CSKA Moscow. The Greek team had to face a 19-point deficit against the Russians before winning. The European double came the following year by lifting the cup again for the 2012-2013 season, thus confirming their status as a benchmark. We owe this title to the one who is once again in charge of the team today, coach Bartzokas.

Olympiacos benefits from a large pool of talent in Greece, with notably Spanoulis – MVP of the 2023 title – Printezis – celebrated as a club legend at the beginning of this season – Papanikolaou. But the club has also managed to attract the services of well-known players in the Euroleague such as the now retired Kyle Hines. And of course, the 6th man always ready to support his team!

Among the players who have marked the history of the club, Vassilis Spanoulis and Kostas Printezis occupy a special place. Spanoulis, with his flamboyant playing style and his ability to take over games, has become the icon of a whole generation. His three-point shot at 0°, his vision of the game and his leadership have made him one of the best European players of all time. Printezis, for his part, embodied the strength and fighting spirit of Olympiacos. A powerful interior and tireless defender, he was a pillar of the team for many years. The Spanoulis-Printezis duo formed one of the most efficient and admired pairs in the Euroleague. Today, both ranked as club legends, they still haunt the court of the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

Beyond the club, Olympiacos BC is a strong symbol for Greece, a vector of unity and national pride. Its history is marked by strong moments, epic encounters – notably the derby against the great rival Panathinaikos – and legendary players. Today, Olympiacos continues to write new pages in its history, with the ambition to conquer new titles and make the colors of Greece shine on European courts.
