Virtus Bologna is an Italian basketball club founded in 1871. It’s one of the oldest clubs in the world and one of the most decorated in Italy. Although basketball didn’t arrive at Virtus Bologna until the 1920s, the club had difficulties establishing itself in the Italian basketball landscape. After a few years of struggling to gain a foothold, the club reached Serie A in the 1950s, but it was really from the late 1970s that it made its name in Italian basketball, winning four Italian league titles between 1976 and 1984, even achieving a double in that year with its first Italian Cup.

The 1990s were a golden period for Virtus Bologna. The club won three consecutive Italian league titles (1993-1995) and two EuroLeague titles (1998, 2001). The club saw great names pass through during this decade, both as players (Danilovic, Savic, Rigaudeau) and coaches (Messina). Messina and Rigaudeau would even win a EuroLeague double together.

After a few years of difficulties on and off the court in the 2000s, Virtus Bologna found a positive dynamic in 2009 with the victory in the EuroChallenge in 2009.

In recent years, the club has regained the same flourishing period as its glory years, having won the Basketball Champions League in 2019 and then the EuroCup at home in June 2022, which allowed it to return to the top European league for the 2022/2023 season.

Virtus Bologna is an ambitious team aiming to win new titles. The club has recruited experienced players such as Miloš Teodosić and Marco Belinelli, and is well-positioned to continue its success in the coming years.
